‘Grey’s Anatomy’ season 9, episode 12 review: When ghosts are real

Grey's Anatomy Season 9There was pain on Thursday night’s new “Grey’s Anatomy” episode, and plenty of it as we saw a number of characters try to overcome what were some pretty real and serious fears. Even though the plane crash was around eight months ago (at least in our timeline as viewers), it could have very well happened yesterday based on what some of the characters were going through.

For one, Meredith was having to deal with a pretty major fear of getting on a plane again in order to help a patient; and until the closing seconds, it did not appear as though she was going to go through with it. Meanwhile, Arizona had to struggle with a phantom pain that was coming through where her leg once was; and late at night, all she had were nightmares reminding her of amputation time and time again.

Even some other characters battled fears that they have not expressed externally as of late. When it came to April, it was that she could suddenly go from failing the boards to losing her job that she only recently got back after Dr. Alana Cahill arrived on the scene with the suggestion to take away the ER to cut costs following the lawsuit. Meanwhile, Richard had to look at the fact that he is much older than his fellow employees, and his former student in Cahill is making it clear to everyone that he has clocked fewer hours in the past month than anyone else. Could he be in trouble soon?

With there really being no indication during this episode at all that any of the individual characters are going to end up giving their money from the settlement back to the hospital, there is still an air of panic over the show: nobody may love Cahill’s presence, but she is really the only hope that they have to keep afloat. Meanwhile, the resentment is thick between the doctors who were not on the crash, and those that were and are receiving justice for it at the expense of others.
