‘Homeland’ season 3 spoilers: Show boss confirms Damian Lewis’ return
As if there was ever really any doubt considering what happened during the “Homeland” season 2 finale, Damian Lewis is going to stay a part of the Showtime drama moving forward.
While at a Fox after-party following the 2013 Golden Globes on Sunday night, the show’s executive producer in Alex Gansa was asked about the fate of Nicholas Brody, who last we saw was fleeing the country after being accused publicly of orchestrated the terrorist attack in the finale. Considering that Lewis won the Globe for Best Actor for this part, it certainly makes sense for Gansa to tell the following to TVLine:
“He’s alive so of course he’ll be back … One of the great challenges of next [season] is how he’ll be back. But there’s no doubt that he will be back.”
The other thing worth noting from the Globes is that there was no indication given that Morena Baccarin would be leaving the show despite her splitting up with Brody, which means that she is also going to still be around in some capacity. Our guess at the moment, and this is the same one that we had before the awards ceremony even began, is that Brody will remain in hiding for the first few episodes of the season. That way, you really get a sense that this is a man who is off the map, and it could take a little while for his whereabouts to be unearthed. Over time he will likely be discovered, and then the story will build into something akin to what we saw the first two seasons (with the crux of the story now being trying to find a way to clear this man’s name … an interesting proposition for a guy who once put on a suicide vest).
“Homeland” season 3 has already been announced to have a September 29 premiere date, and production will start up beginning in either April or May. There are still some other questions remaining to be answered, including what supporting characters will be back.
