‘Pretty Little Liars’ season 3, episode 14 review: What’s with Byron and Alison?

Pretty Little Liars“Pretty Little Liars” is back, and within the first episode alone we saw everything from brains to paranoia, creepy janitors, and an attempt by a former crazy person to suddenly try to act normal. It was a pretty eventful episode, and the nice part about it was that there were some genuinely nice moments mixed in with the mystery (such as Emily’s dad trying to genuinely bond with her, even if he was struggling to figure out how).

Of course, this very person was none other than Mona, who spent much of the episode trying to pull off her best attempt of normalcy by acting as though she was cured from Rosewood, only to later become primary suspect #1 in trying to burn Meredith to a crisp … something only someone as demented as her would think that the Liars would want over learning that she was their new teacher.

As for the story with Byron and Alison, let’s just say we now have a little bit of a greater understanding as to just why the two had a conflicted relationship … and why Byron has a very strong motive in order to kill Alison, as she was blackmailing him in order to keep his affair with Meredith a secret. This was all discovered in a journal kept by the creepy janitor who seemed to double as the owner of the hotel last season, and this set off a chain of all sorts of angry Byron events. The zenith? Seeing Byron accuse Aria’s friends of setting up Meredith to be burned. Things are not going to get better anytime soon; instead, they will only become more awkward.

By the end of this episode, it was pretty clear that Creepy Janitor is near the top of the list of suspects now for the “A Team,” and the only real complaint that we had for this episode was that there was not a great deal of Aria and Ezra story; and while there were scenes for Toby and Spencer, there was no payoff yet.
