‘How I Met Your Mother’ season 8: Alyson Hannigan jokes about season 9 renewal

How I Met Your MotherAs you may have heard by now, “How I Met Your Mother” is pretty close to being officially renewed for a ninth season, and all we have to do now is wait for the actual announcement to come down via CBS (which will probably not happen until at some point in the new year).

If you want further verification that the renewal is in fact happening, though, all you have to do is know that one of the show’s cast members has already posted about it on Twitter. After posting a link to the original Deadline story that broke the news on Friday (which just so happened to be the infamous date of 12/21/12), Alyson Hannigan joked online that she was happy that “the world(s) didn’t end.” Hannigan’s co-star Jason Segel seemed to be the reason why the renewal went down to the wire, though there were scheduling issues across the board with all of the actors that needed to be worked out in order for the renewal to happen.

The finer details of the renewal have yet to be announced, but the general assumption is that it will be for 24 episodes (though at least 22), and that this will be the last season of the show. It’s possible that the writers could go ahead and have the “who is the mother?” question answered by the end of season 8 in order to show the actual character alongside the rest of the gang, but we are more inclined to believe that they will wait and have one of the final scenes of the show be where Ted and the mystery woman greet each other for the first time.
