‘The Celebrity Apprentice’ winner Arsenio Hall releases first talk show promo

Arsenio HallOn September 9, 2013, Arsenio Hall is going to be back on late-night TV with a show that will mark a return to his roots … but is it really going to be able to go back to the same role on TV that it once occupied? We’re really not so sure based on the first promo from the man, who was able to really land in the spotlight again thanks to his victory on “The Celebrity Apprentice” last season.

As an entertainer, we have no doubt that Arsenio clearly knows what he is doing. This promo also does follow through on what you want to see from “The Arsenio Hall Show” when it comes to nostalgia … in particular some famous “woofing” from audience members. Unfortunately, it also comes across as incredibly cheesy, and we would have preferred for it to be a little bit funnier considering all of the competition that is already out there in the late-night space.

The biggest problem Arsenio faces moving forward is that his show is syndicated across many CW affiliates and other stations, which means he does not have the same sort of anchor as David Letterman, Chelsea Handler, or many other major faces in late-night. His show is also coming on the air over a full year after Donald Trump “hired” him, which is going to make it a little bit harder to capitalize on some of the fame that he built up over the course of the show.

Will “Arsenio” deliver? As with all talk shows, we will probably not know until a few weeks down the road, when its audience starts to slowly and surely build. Ricki Lake is in the middle of attempting a similar sort of comeback brought on by a different reality show in “Dancing with the Stars,” and thus far she has seen mixed results at best.
