‘Downton Abbey’ season 4 spoilers: Hugh Bonneville still unsure about future

Hugh BonnevilleIs a “Downton Abbey” season 4 happening? Based on reports that ITV has commissioned new episodes to air next year, it seems as though the answer is “yes.” However, that does not mean that one of the show’s biggest stars in Hugh Bonneville is still expressing a great deal of confidence that there will indeed be new episodes happening in the new year. (Note: the following does contain minor spoilers for American viewers, so read on at your own risk.)

Speaking in a new chat per the Mirror, here is what the cautious actor, who was tragically snubbed by the Golden Globes this past week for Best Actor in a Drama Series, had to say:

“A new series has not yet been confirmed. I have no idea what is happening … There is a demand… I’d be surprised if we don’t do another. There will be a lot of disappointed people if we don’t.”

Personally, we feel as though there is nothing to worry about when it comes to a fourth season of the show actually happening. The demand for it is clearly there from the fans, and the sole question that is remaining is just if Dan Stevens, Michelle Dockery, and Maggie Smith will all be back. At the moment, the answer to this question from our perspective is merely “maybe.” Stevens is the least likely given some of the reports that are floating around out there, but unless someone is actually “written out” during the episode airing on Christmas Day, we would be absolutely stunned to see all of them gone without a single appearance during season 4.

Do you think that all of this “Downton Abbey” speculation is worrying over nothing at this point, or are you genuinely nervous now that there is a chance the show could go on without many of its key actors?
