‘Grey’s Anatomy’ season 9, episode 9 review: For whom the wedding bell tolls
For all the hyping up this week on “Grey’s Anatomy” about Bailey’s wedding, Derek’s surgery, and also Owen telling Cristina that the divorce papers were on the way, there was one shocker that came almost out of left field (at least for those of you who have stayed off of the internet in recent weeks): Adele Webber has been hospitalized, and her prognosis is not great.
Adele’s abrupt trip to Seattle Grace laid quite an impact on at least one of these stories, as it gave Bailey a perfectly good reason in order to skip out on marrying Ben for the time being. We genuinely feel bad for the guy, since he obviously loves his woman with all of his heart and is ready to be with her; but the truth is, she was having doubts long before she put on the wedding dress. Will she ever get married? Only time will tell.
As for Derek, the wait is finally over: his hand is now in the process of healing, and the path to a regular life is now a little bit easier because of it. He really has his sister Lizzie to thank for it more than anyone, though, as she is the person responsible for donating the nerves to make it happen. The lesson here? For Derek, it is actually being smart enough to let someone else help out.
With this being the midseason finale, Shonda Rhimes decided to give us a few more happy endings (or at least happy cliffhangers) to go along with this one. After learning that Owen was only wanting to divorce her to help out her settlement for the plan crash, she wanted nothing more than to be with him all over again. (Hooray!) As for Callie and Arizona, their relationship is also improving. Jessica Capshaw’s character is slowly getting her swagger back, and for her this week getting her prosthetic foot in a flat was a big step in the right direction.
