NBC’s ‘The Voice’ preview: Cassadee Pope, Terry McDermott gain on iTunes
Thanks to the new rule on “The Voice” this season (where a top ten berth on the iTunes charts leads to these votes getting multiplied), the show is obviously looking to prove that their contestants can be commercially viable in the modern music scene. After all, don’t you want a winner this season that will actually go out and sell records at the end of the day?
Well, based on the numbers we are seeing on here as of this writing, one thing feels pretty obvious to us sadly: Amanda Brown is in trouble. Neither of her songs (“(You Make Me Feel) Like a Natural Woman” and “Here I Go Again”) are charting too close to the top ten as of this writing, whereas there are three artists who currently have tracks within that elusive top ten: Cassadee Pope, Terry McDermott (who was all the way up at #2), and Nicholas David. This pretty much gives you three-quarters of the finale so long as their public votes are at least close to the their single sales.
So with Amanda possibly ruled out, this just leads you with a debate of Trevin Hunte versus Melanie Martinez. If the latter is sent home, this means that the finale will literally be just between Cee Lo Green and Blake Shelton. One of Trevin’s songs has been close to the top ten, closer than either one of Melanie’s; however, both of her songs are ahead of Trevin’s lackluster “Walking on Sunshine.” This is going to be a pretty close (but pretty fun) competition to see who stays.
If we do end up losing both Amanda and Melanie within the span of one week, though, it is going to be sad. Both are true originals, and thus have a shot at being successful in the music business depending on if they have the right people around them. (Hey, Amanda clearly knows Adele.)
Who do you think is going to go home on “The Voice” Tuesday? If you want to go back and read our full review from Monday night’s show, you can do so here.
