If you have been waiting patiently for some details all about the upcoming “Downton Abbey” season 3 Christmas special, you’re in luck: the network responsible for the show in ITV has just unveiled its official synopsis.
So what is the good news here? Everything that we have teased to you thus far about the episode is accurate, as we are going to see many of our lead characters taking off to Scotland. As for the bad news, pretty much every single thing within this synopsis is something that we have already mentioned here. (In other words, there are no surprises at all.)
“The family receive a warm welcome at Duneagle Castle, visiting Rose and her parents in the Highlands. But there is no disguising the tensions between their hosts … Carson is determined to keep the servants back at Downton working hard, but with a country fair coming up, will some be tempted to push their luck? … Could romance be on the cards for Mrs Patmore?”
Given that both Anna and Bates are featured in the photo above along with our wealthier characters, we are assuming that Robert must take at least a pair of his servants with him on the journey. Sadly, we do not know too much about what happens following their arrival, save from the fact that the episode will contain a number of emotional moments, and serve as some sort of a proper bridge between seasons 4 and 5. (Given that Julian Fellowes may have known in advance that Dan Stevens was contemplating leaving the show, he may have set up some sort of cliffhanger at the end of this episode for Matthew.)
