‘The Big Bang Theory’ season 6, episode 9 review: Parking in first place

The Big Bang TheoryWhen “The Big Bang Theory” season 6 premiered earlier this year, it hit a major struggle courtesy of Howard spending so much time in space. The structure of the show just didn’t work as well, and as much as we like Stuart the comic book store owner, he just did not fit as a replacement.

Now that he is back, though, the show has somehow managed to become as funny as ever … and this is a rare example for a show that is while in its sixth season. Do you want any evidence as to why the show is still drawing huge ratings? This episode is why. It did not change the world by any means, but it was funny, random, and it showed us some new sides to characters that we thought we knew pretty well before it started.

Basically, the main story revolved all around one simple action that spiraled completely and totally out of control: Howard taking Sheldon’s parking spot at the school. Granted, Sheldon doesn’t even know how to drive, but it was the principle of the thing! The back-and-forth between these two was most genuine and true to the characters, with the only real out-of-character moment coming when Sheldon took his clothes off inside of Howard’s new car. (We like to think that Sheldon is a bit more cerebral when it comes to his plans for revenge.)

You knew that this story would be resolved by the end of the episode, but what was unexpected was seeing Amy and Bernadette get into a bit of an argument of their own over whose significant other was a bigger deal. As funny as this story was (and it included Penny accidentally getting socked in the face), it also touched on something rather important: there would be tension between Howard and Sheldon after his return from space. Sheldon has been so used to belittling his pal over the years, and now he has having to get accustomed to the idea that he is no longer the shining star of the university. In his own bizarre way, he had to learn that not always being the star is okay … even if he has continued to convince himself that he still is.
