‘American Idol’ notes: Jessica Sanchez, Phillip Phillips, Nicki Minaj
Jessica Sanchez has mostly stayed under-the-radar as of late while she preps her debut album for a release earlier next year, but we do finally have something new courtesy of her to share now: the brand-new commercial featuring Sanchez for RadioShack, just in time for the holiday season.
The commercial itself is rather simple, and an homage to the classic 1989 film “Say Anything”: rather than have someone holding up a radio playing the Peter Gabriel classic “In Your Eyes,” however, we instead have a young man holding up the tiny pill radio by Beats (which is the company in part owned by “American Idol” mentor Jimmy Iovine) to a woman listening intently in an above window. Jessica gets the opportunity here to play the lucky lady, and the song being played out of the headlines is none other than “Gone, Gone, Gone” from Phillip Phillips’ debut album. Let’s rejoice someone using a song from Phillip other than “Home”!
It’s a cute ad, and definitely worth checking out below. (Video via pphillipsonline.)
The latest promo – Now, let’s move over to what is a very important message courtesy of Nicki Minaj: she really wants to be taken seriously as an artist as well as an “American Idol” judge. Rather than focusing on some of the sillier parts of her personality, this new promo from Fox showcases her giving honest, real feedback to contestants while being supportive. It’s never fair to judge based solely on audition round performances thanks to editing, but thus far Nicki seems to come across as what Jennifer Lopez tried to be: a nurturing presence that would still not be afraid to deliver hard truths when needed to.
With this being said, someone probably needs to tell Nicki that another show is already coming close to “American Idol” in “The Voice” … so that comparison really does not fly right now.
If you want to read some other recent “American Idol” notes about Phillip Phillips and Scotty McCreery, you can do so over here.

I object. Jessica Sanchez has been doing this since she was a child. I think she knows more about the music industry than we think she does; after all that pretty much has been her life. I disagree with your 5 year point. I believe she has the best vocals and vocal range to come along in many years. I honestly believe she could be grammy nominated in 2013. Her album will do well because she’s very popular already (million twitter followers). She has one of the top 10 female voices I have heard from the last 30 years. She’ll be a superstar and it won’t take 5 years.

Jessica Sanchez will be big. But I’m pretty sure not yet next year or 5 years time. Probably when she learns her music better and knows the music industry more, that’s when we’ll see charts with Jessica Sanchez as number 1 . Objection?

Phillips is already washed up like every cute guitar boy who has won idol 5 years straight – after his lucky hand singing a karaoke cover of Greg Holden’s ‘Home’. Now that the horny girls have simmered down and the cute boy winner’s album is tanking yet again, It’s time for Sanchez to step out as the real talent.

agree with Mark Anthony . their two different artist w/different music . It almost seems their making Jessica look like so much background for Phillips music. This girl is going to be a superstar she needs to be treated and marketed like one.

As the author states, Jessica should be have HEAVY media coverage by mid february before launch. I again take issue with the P2- Sanchez co-marketing because it keeps her associated with American Idol. Phillips music genre is not even close to Sanchez’s. If they plan on letting Sanchez be Sanchez which = R&B/ Urban they need to lay off the A.I -Family bad-trip and focus on marketing colab’s with established URBAN artists! Sanchez and Phillips have ZERO in common.

To be brutally honest, I am not pleased at ALL with this Radio Shack ad. American Idol is done with and I do NOT feel Jessica Sanchez should be associating her career with Phillip Phillips “music” in this way. This is no disrespect to Phillips, but the imagery depicts Sanchez with a pensive facial expression as a young man holds up and focuses a Phillips tune “in her face” so to speak. When are they going to permit Sanchez to “hold her own”, free of the A.I stigma (which isn’t even a genuine musical persona)?? Wake up Interscope. Please.
