‘Supernatural’ season 8 spoilers: Jensen Ackles talks ‘cartoon episode’

On Wednesday night, “Supernatural” is going to be embracing the weird and the wacky courtesy of their cartoon-inspired hour “Hunteri Heroici,” and it is certainly something that has generated a good deal of excitement among the fandom already. As it turns out, it also seems as though the hour is something that even the cast is thoroughly excited about, even if they originally approached the idea of putting cheesy blood and anvils falling on people with an appropriate amount of skepticism.

So what is one of the actors saying now about the general idea behind the episode? Speaking to TVOvermind on location in Vancouver, Jensen Ackles expressed just why there is a reason to have faith when it comes to strange and wacky ideas with this show … mostly because they almost always end up being a success:

“If you take episodes like Changing Channels or French Mistake, where we go so outside the box, but yet we always somehow find a way to make it make sense.  This is kind of one of those off-the-wall episodes.  It’s not something we’ve ever done before.  When I heard the concept I was like ‘really?!’  But I’ve gotten that reaction several times in the show and it’s always worked out.”

This episode also has more significance than just marking the cartoon twist; it also marks the first occasion in which Castiel (Misha Collins) has had an opportunity to embrace his role as a hunter. Will this work out for him? There is more of a reason to be doubtful there, but we can at least promise a great deal of comedy based on everything that we have seen thus far.
