‘Downton Abbey’ season 3 spoilers: Fishing for Christmas

As of late, there has not been much in the way of good news when it comes to Dan Stevens and “Downton Abbey.” After all, the actor has been rumored to not be coming back to the ITV series for the just-announced fourth season, with the hottest story out there being that his character of Matthew will appear in just one episode before being written out for good (which, to be honest, makes little sense given that this is seemingly not the sort of show that anyone would want to leave given the quality).

However, why don’t we slow down when it comes to the future for a minute in order to focus on the present? The new photo above features Matthew getting some much-needed recreational time in fishing during the upcoming Christmas special; which, ironically, enough, is going to be set in September. The setting for Matthew is also going to be in Scotland, where he and many of the Granthams are going to be as they accompany Lady Rose up to her family estate. It will be nice to see some of these characters out of their familiar setting, if for no other reason than seeing how many of them cope with new elements away from the servants.

As for some of the servants during this episode, we already know that they will be spending their time back at Downton helping to prepare for a rather eventful fair coming up during the two hours, and there could even be a rather surprising romance on the horizon depending on whether or not the rumors are true.

What do you want to see Matthew do during this Christmas special?
