‘Glee’ season 4 spoilers: Now with a touch of ‘American Idol’s’ Phillip Phillips
Since there’s not that much to talk about right now when it comes to “American Idol” notes (and you can thank Thanksgiving for that, given that most former stars of the show are relaxing with friends and family … at least save for Adam Lambert), we are instead presenting something a little bit different here: the music of Phillip Phillips being featured on “Glee” season 4.
Sadly, we don’t have the full audio of the cast’s cover of “Home” (mixed with the classic Simon & Garfunkel song “Homeward Bound”) to share at the moment; however, we do at least have a brief 30-second clip of the track, and it sounds remarkably haunting. The pace of the song is slowed down dramatically from Phillips’ version, and it is likely being used here to make a pretty strong emotional punch.
The use of “Home” on the show makes perfect sense, really, once you consider the context. For their “Thanksgiving” episode (as opposed to the one actually airing on Thanksgiving), many of the graduated members of New Directions are going to be back together in Lima to spend at least a little bit of time together and with their families. Is it an incomplete reunion? Yes, since there is still no Rachel (Lea Michele) or Kurt (Chris Colfer). However, the characters are all still grateful to be looking back at some of the great times that they had at McKinley High, while simultaneously the current New Directions are preparing to blow the competition away at Sectionals.
Based on what you are hearing now, do you like this version of the song, and are you starting to worry that “Home” may actually be a little bit overused at this point?
