NBC’s ‘The Voice’ review: Are Amanda Brown, Cody Belew in the top 8?

After a performance show on “The Voice” that was one of the best of the entire year, it is fair to say that the voting Tuesday night was going to be at least a little bit unpredictable. On the surface, Melanie Martinez and Cody Belew were the two most vulnerable singers thanks to their place in the bottom last week, but they each gave some pretty solid performances on the show that seemed to suggest that they are worthy of sticking around. (Belew’s wasn’t perfect, but his dance moves on “Crazy in Love” were thoroughly entertaining.)

The results tricked in throughout the show, and the first two acts to be declared safe were Cassadee Pope and Nicholas David, which was no surprise given that they each were handed some pretty widespread praise throughout the episode. Then, we had our biggest surprise: Cody made it threw! We’re not sure that we have ever seen someone so excited about making it through to the next round before, and his spontaneous hugs with Cee Lo Green were really rather exciting to see. We don’t think it’s cocky so much as someone just showing how badly they want to move forward in the competition.

To make things even more interesting, we also saw Melanie be declared safe in surprising fashion, which left us with five artists who have never really been in trouble on the show before.  Amanda Brown, Bryan Keith, Sylvia Yacoub, and Trevin Hunte were all in danger, and this meant that there would be a surprise mixed in here. Trevin was safe, and the two artists leaving the competition were none other than Sylvia and Bryan. The first one was not a shocker by any means. However, how in the world did Bryan leave? He has been built up as a favorite all season long, and it may have just been his lack of star power that sent him packing.

Do you think America sent the right two artists home this week? We want to hear some of your reactions to this elimination below!
