‘Homeland’ season 2, episode 9 preview: How committed is Brody?
Nicholas Brody has been through some major tests already on “Homeland” season 2, but we are not sure any of them are going to be on par with what he is going to be up to next. After all, Damian Lewis’ character is now coming in contact with a man who he knows already to be a danger not just to himself, but to all of the United States: Abu Nazir.
Now that the famed terrorist is actually in America, he is going to be spending much of Sunday night’s new episode doing one thing and one thing only: making sure that Brody does exactly what he wants to in order for the mission to be a success. If he doesn’t do it, Nazir warns him that every single person that he cares about will be in danger. (Does this include Jess? He obviously doesn’t care that much about her based on what he did recently with Carrie…)
So for the character, the debate is simple: allow himself to be indoctrinated again into the brotherhood of a terrorist regime, or to actually fight for the good of his home country, even if they have not always been good to him. Somehow, the beauty of this show is that just when you think that there is no way the writers can go deeper down the rabbit hole, they find another shovel and get to work at it. We’re now at the point where it is hard to see Brody getting out of this both alive and unexposed; one of the two seems primed to happen, and the question is when moreso than if. (Granted, we also thought he would be caught at the end of season 1.)
Do you think “Homeland” season 2 has been an improvement or a disappointment from the first year, and what do you expect Brody to do?
