‘Army Wives’ season 7 spoilers: Whose character is set to die?

When “Army Wives” returns to Lifetime in the new year for season 7, don’t expect to show to look anything like the one you once watched and loved. Why? Let’s just say that the near-constant rumors about a certain character’s fate on the show were proven to be correct. (Warning: there is some major spoiler-sharing happening beyond this point. Do not read on if you want to be surprised!)

Speaking to TVLine, executive producer Jeff Melvoin confirms that Kim Delaney’s character of Claudia Joy Holden ever since the beginning of the show, will be killed off during the first episode back. There are no details available yet about what happens to her character, but she was traveling overseas when season 6 came to a close.

Melvoin also added that there is going to be plenty of emotion behind the decision to move forward with the other characters:

“The first two [episodes] will be very emotional, and it will confirm that Claudia Joy is no longer among the living. It’s been very wrenching for us to write, and I think it will be very wrenching for the audience to go through.

“Kim and Claudia Joy have been the rock upon which we based the show. But we [have to] continue to move forward and keep the show fresh and unpredictable.”

How will the public take to all of these changes? That is the real question that is going to be worth watching moving forward, as Sally Pressman’s real-life pregnancy is also going to limit the number of episodes in which she appears. The show has creative and budgetary issues to think about all the time with its cast, but are viewers going to really be behind seeing Claudia Joy’s story end considering everything the character has gone through?

What do you think about the decision to kill of Delaney’s character, and do you think that it is the right one?
