‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 4, episode 6 review: Who’s broken up?
When it comes to relationships, we may as well call it now: this was hardly the best or the easiest episode ever for the characters on “The Vampire Diaries.” We have one couple that is for sure over, another one that could be on the outs, and there are of course some other potential romances blooming already. As if this was not enough, we also have Jeremy getting groomed already to be the heir to Connor by none other than Professor Shane, otherwise known as the most normal-looking “villain” in history.
Let’s eulogize some of the couples now, shall we? First, we have Stefan and Elena, who do at least appear to be over for the time being since he cannot handle the fact that he is not only incapable of taking care of her properly, but that she has new feelings for Damon that she did not originally have.
To make matters even worse here, Tyler and Caroline seem to be on the brink of splitsville thanks largely to Caroline making an on-the-fly decision to help Klaus and in turn Jeremy and Elena, even though doing so meant that one of the hybrids Tyler was trying to save become a victim in the process. Jeremy needed to kill someone with vampire blood in order to complete the transition into the new “chosen one,” so Elena would no longer be haunted by hallucinations of everyone from Connor to even Katherine, who came out of hiding to at least show up in Elena’s unconscious in order to convince her to take her own life. This way, Connor could have his justice, and his body would be at peace.
Overall, this was the sort of “Vampire Diaries” episode that you enjoy, but yet feel pretty sad about in the process. (Then again, you may be smiling at the moment if you like Elena and Damon … or Klaus and Caroline.) We’re still not anywhere near close to finding the vampire cure if it even exists, but luckily at least Elena is no longer a risk to destroy herself completely.
