2012 MTV EMAs: One Direction, Carly Rae Jepsen, Justin Bieber among winners

The 2012 MTV Europe Music Awards were held in Frankfurt on Sunday, and even though not every star to take home a trophy was in attendance for the show, many of them still have a reason to smile after the fact. The show had a decidedly young feel, with the majority of the winners under the age of 21. In addition to that, there were also some singing-competition connects courtesy of a former “X Factor” contestant (in One Direction) along with a standout from the world of “Canadian Idol” in Carly Rae Jepsen.

Check out the full list of winners below, which include everything from touring honors to a pick of the best fanbase. Are you happy with the winners? Be sure to share your thoughts at the bottom of this article.

Best Rock – Linkin Park

Best Electronic – David Guetta

Considering that Bieber is in the middle of a tabloid scandal surrounding his breakup with Selena Gomez, these wins probably mean more to him than just about anyone else on the show at this point. However, it is a bit of a thrill that several acts on this list are new to the music scene, and the EMAs did a great job of not just re-hashing the same singers over and over again.
