‘How I Met Your Mother’ season 8 spoilers: First look into ‘Splitsville’ (video)

We know that “who is the mother?” is really the question that every serious fan of “How I Met Your Mother” is waiting for an answer to at this very moment, but at least the new episode coming up Monday night (entitled “Splitsville”) is at least going to be kind enough to answer one other thing for us leading up to another mystery: how Barney and Robin end up getting back together.

When you consider that Marshall and Lily are not breaking up, and also the fact that there are no other taken couples among the gang, it’s pretty clear that this is the episode that is all about Robin and Nick reaching the end of their relationship. Unfortunately, there is a massive problem in doing so, and this is something shown off in the photo below: Nick is a complete idiot. Despite somehow getting his own cooking show, this is a man who has not fully come to grasp the art of basic communication, including when your girlfriend is trying to tell you that the relationship is just not working out.

Something else that is curious here? The photo above is actually from this episode, which leads us to believe that even if Barney and Robin do not get together again this week, there will at least be some flirting that happens to get them rolling in that direction. Personally we feel like some sort of trigger was set off for Cobie Smulders’ character last week that Barney was not completely over her when he was using a dog as a new wingman, and for whatever reason that has caused her to spring into action.
