ABC’s ‘Castle’ season 5 spoilers: Comic-Con realism
Comic-Con can traditionally be a pretty chaotic place, but this is not always something that you would know unless you have made a few visits to such a place over the years. The stereotypical image of these sort of sci-fi conventions in someone’s mind is that they are groups of geeky people just sitting around and goofing off, but it is really so much more than this: there is chaos, huge crowds, and rather interesting relationships that are formed between the attendees (sometimes on intimate levels that no one wants to know about).
Luckily, Jonathan Frakes (pictured) has been to a few conventions in his day courtesy of his work in the “Star Trek” franchise, and he was on board to direct this particular “Castle” season 5 episode. So was he able to use some of this expertise to help the show realize its goals? Based on his new comments to TVLine, it sure sounds like it:
“I did [have input]. For example, on the second or third day that a fan is at a convention in his or her costume, the costume looks a little bedraggled, and their hair is a little more matted, nothing looks quite perfect…. That touch of realism makes the convention floor really feel like a Comic-Con or Dragon-Con.”
While licensing issues kept the show from using too many real comic-book characters, the purchase of Marvel on Disney’s part has enabled there to be more opportunities present when it comes to using some design elements from “The Avengers” and some great heroes of Marvel lore.
