The Blacklist season 7: Is Katarina Rostova dead?

Tonight, The Blacklist season 7 episode 10 delivered an intense fall finale entitled “Katarina Rostova.” It was one featuring some fascinating capers, and also Elizabeth Keen doing what Elizabeth Keen does best: Finding a way to go rogue on everyone.

Despite Liz being confronted by Katarina and then knocked out by Berdy Chernov, eventually Liz’s mother was able to get her on board. How so? Well, it has a thing or two to do with convincing her that Ilya Koslov was in fact someone else as opposed to Raymond Reddington. She also made it clear that the story that Dom told in “Rassvet” was at least a partial lie. She also then made it clear that she wanted to stop the Townsend Directive, the bounty that could inevitably lead to her death.

Through much of the home stretch of the episode, Liz found herself helping Katarina and Berdy escape the clutches of the Task Force and Reddington, using a secret passageway to help ensure that she got out. Yet, by pure circumstance Reddington was able to see Katarina driving away from the scene. That was enough for him to realize that tailing was the best option. That happened for a little while, or at least until a certain set of brothers turned up and gunned Katarina down.

Is Katarina Rostova really dead? Judging from what we saw on the episode tonight, that feels pretty clear. The big mystery now is who hired these brothers to go in and do a lot of what they did. They are next-level assassins clearly, and they are dangerous enough in order to give Reddington pause.

In the closing minutes, Reddington told Liz the truth about the “woman in Paris” being dead … and also who did it. Well, here’s the twist! The Katarina who died wasn’t actually dead. She managed to fake her own death, and for now, she’s taking off. We’ll see when she resurfaces, and it does feel very much like her.

For now, let’s just say this: WHAT A STUNT. Kudos to Katarina for pulling off this incredible stunt.
