Survivor: Island of the Idols: Dan Spilo removed from game

Dan Spilo

On tonight’s Survivor: Island of the Idols episode, the most shocking news came out right before the end. Following Elaine Scott being voted off on Tribal Council, Jeff Probst revealed that Dan Spilo was removed from the game — it was then revealed on the screen (not by Jeff) that there was a report of an off-camera incident, one that did not involve a player on this season. What this means is that he will not be a part of this season or the jury, but if he will be there for the finale remains to be seen.

Survivor made a move that they felt was right, but did it come a little bit too late? There was enough smoke around what happened with Kellee that action from production should have been taken earlier than this, but it wasn’t. Instead, we got to this point and there is not a whole lot of information or transparency shown on the episode itself. That may have been at the request of the other person, and in that case it has to be 1000% respected.

We have to imagine that Dan will be a conversation topic at the reunion, and one that will involve many of the other players trying to find a sense of healing. There’s no confirmation that Dan will be there, and it may be a contentious topic that he should be able to attend. It’s possible he could blame production, or he will issue an apology that we’ll be left to question. It may be better to just allow everyone else to have their platform to speak and process some of what happened. While the remaining players may have differing experiences with Dan, his actions will impact them all. This is a part of this season.

As we stated early, all of this could have been avoided had CBS and producers just removed Dan and addressed the concerns earlier.
