The Blacklist season 7 episode 9 spoilers: A blast from the past
Why is she so desperate to investigate the memories of her former friend? Much of it has to do with her thirst for answers, whether it be on the downfall of their relationship (which seemingly stems from a mysterious incident in Belgrade) or the Townsend Directive, the kill order that has been put out on Katarina that has been a driving force of hers. She wants to know how to protect herself, and it seems as though Ilya is one of her only options. The only other one out there is Raymond Reddington, but for whatever reason Katarina isn’t as transfixed on getting some of the answers from him.

In a new sneak peek that you can see over at TV Guide, you get a good chance in order to see the extent of the memory-work that is being done on Ilya. It’s some shocking stuff, and a part of it seemingly requires him to focus back in on a previous version himself … one played by Gabriel Mann! This is Mann’s first onscreen appearance as this character since “Rassvet” back in season 6, though it remains to be seen how much we’re going to see him. He did a good bit to change his appearance before becoming Raymond Reddington, or at least that’s per the story that Dom told Elizabeth Keen. Tonight’s episode should prove to be a good one when it comes to seeing whether or not Dom told Liz the truth — there have long been questions aplenty about it!
(For the record, we’ve long stated that Dom may have told Liz a little bit of the truth when it comes to Ilya and Katarina’s past, but may have chosen to omit certain details — that’s at least implied by the conversations we’ve seen him have with Reddington.)
