Chicago Fire season 8 episode 9 spoilers: More on Monica Raymund story

Gabriela Dawson

If you missed the big news last week, here it is again: Monica Raymund is returning for the upcoming Chicago Fire season 8 midseason finale. What does that mean? There are a lot of circumstances around it that are unclear. Dawson will have a role to play in the episode (entitled “Best Friend Magic”), but is she coming back to express interest in reconciling with Casey? Is she returning to Chicago full-time? Has she moved on romantically with Puerto Rico? Will she give Brett some support in possibly being with Casey down the road? These are just some questions currently circling around in our head.

We will say, at least for now, that we’ve got a hard time believing that we’re being set up for Monica to return full-time. She has another TV gig now coming up on Starz and it’s hard to balance multiple roles at once. Yet, we’d be more than fine if there were some other chances to see Dawson coming up beyond one episode, and the synopsis below offers up what we’d say is, at the very least, an interesting tease for what is coming:

11/20/2019 (09:00PM – 10:00PM) (Wednesday) : An unexpected visit throws Casey for a loop. Severide sets out to exonerate a wrongly convicted arsonist. Kidd pays the price for burning the candle at both ends. Cruz goes on a mission to fix one of Otis’s old toys.

While this synopsis doesn’t ever mention Dawson by name, it’s clear from the information that we have that it is her arrival that stuns and/or shocks Casey. It sounds like there was no advance warning that she was coming back, and there’s the other question of why. It’s hard to say that it has anything to do with Antonio at all, given that this would be more of a Chicago PD story and it could be revisited there down the road if need be. This is set to be the final episode of 2019 for Chicago Fire, so no matter what happens, we have to believe that we are going to see this hour end with a pretty tremendous bang. Maybe it’s a someone-is-in-danger sort of cliffhanger, or maybe it is one of the emotional variety.
