‘American Idol’ notes: Phillip Phillips, Adam Lambert, Carrie Underwood

For our “American Idol” notes today, we have a little bit of Halloween fun courtesy of the king of the holiday himself in Adam Lambert. We also have some rather stunning news when it comes to Phillip Phillips’ chart performance, and that is what we are starting off with.

Who imagined that the reigning champ would get to #3 on the Hot AC chart with “Home” after it climbed up so slowly? We honestly thought it would peak at #4, but in gaining more than 300 spins in the past week, we’re about to say that anything is possible when it comes to this song. A #2 appearance seems likely to this point, and while hitting #1 will still be tough courtesy of Maroon 5’s “One More Night,” which is still adding spins itself in the top spot.

Perhaps even more stunning than this is the speed now that “Home” is gaining attention on the Top 40 chart, where the song has surged into the top 20 after gaining more than 700 spins in the past week. Phillip is really the only “American Idol” star other than Kelly Clarkson this past year to achieve this much success on these two charts, even though Carrie Underwood had a nice run with “Good Girl.” The best thing about all of this success is that it sets up his album “Music from the Side of the Moon” well, especially when he does decide to release a new single from it.

Adam’s Halloween performance – Adam Lambert was in Dallas this week for the Texas Tango, and there was probably more Halloween in the audience than just about any of his shows as of late. Attendees wore costumes, and Adam of course even dressed up himself in a hot hat and a wig.

Just for fun, we decided to post his video of “Never Close Our Eyes” from the event since some people in the audience were shouting at him to “take it off” after he threw off the wig. Fun stuff.

Carrie Underwood books AMA gig – Finally, we just wanted to announce via Billboard that Carrie Underwood, Pink, and Pitbull are joining the ranks of Nicki Minaj, Taylor Swift, and more at the American Music Awards this year. Hopefully, this will be a good show, and last year marked the return of Adam Lambert after a presenter after the mass freakout that ensued back in 2009.
