Shameless season 10 episode 3 spoilers: Lip’s issues; Ian, Mickey’s choice

Do we think that Shameless season 10 is going to showcase the evolution of some of the Gallaghers? Absolutely, but let’s not pretend for a second that it’s going to fundamentally change them as characters. They are still the same people that they’ve been, but they just now have experienced more highs and lows. They recognize what works for them and what doesn’t, and they also have a better sense as to the people they want to be.

Yet, there are still going to be setbacks; that’s a part of life, and Shameless season 10 episode 3 airing in late November will feature some of that. Ian and Mickey have some important choices to make about their future, and Lip will be struggling with new-found responsibility.

Liam gets to know his newfound family members as Frank revels in his new position in the Gallagher house. Lip looks for support as the pressures of fatherhood take their toll. Ian and Mickey make a decision about their future, and Carl tries to woo Anne despite Lori’s efforts to get in his way.

Why is Carl getting so mixed up in another romance already? The simplest reason we can think of is that he thinks, for whatever reason, that this is the best thing for him. Also, Carl is on some level striving for something more; we saw that with his aspirations for military training and we’ll likely see that again now. We just also now that there’s always been a tendency for this character to get in his own way. We wouldn’t label it his human nature; instead, it’s just that he’s not used to things working out for him. We’re not sure that he would know what to do with himself if something did.
