The Blacklist season 7 ratings rise; Dynasty season 3 slides

The main event for this particular ratings article is The Blacklist, and for good reason. After all, the NBC series is drawing some of its best numbers in some time!

After all, last night’s uber-complicated episode entitled “Norman Devane” ended up drawing a 0.6 rating in the 18-49 demographic. That is a number that, more or less, ties it with the bulk of season 6’s episodes. There was only one season 6 episode that drew a better number, and that was the premiere that aired in a special timeslot. This rating is a great testament to the show’s loyal viewers, who are willing to check out an episode even as complicated as last night’s was.

One of the things that we’ve discussed quite a bit as of late is the long-term viability for a show like  The Blacklist at this point in its run. Is there a case to be made for a season 8? Two weeks ago, the series was drawing some of its lowest numbers and that caused a little bit of cause for concern among diehard fans. Yet, now it’s in a spot where we feel much more confident. If the ratings stay within the 0.5-0.6 range for much of the season, there’s no fundamental reason for NBC to cancel it unless they are either tired of it or there are some financial snags that make it difficult.

Bad news over on The CW – We really shouldn’t act altogether shocked that there are some shows struggling here on Friday night, but here we are. Dynasty last night drew a 0.1 rating and then also just 360,000 live viewers — its lowest measurement yet. We don’t know how the network didn’t see the continued decline coming, given that this has been what this show is for a rather long period of time now. It’s only survived so far because of streaming and international performance, and it’s going to have to hope for a miracle for this to happen again.

As for last night’s big winner, there is some good news to report for American Housewife, which improved up to a 0.7 rating and that was enough for the series to tie with Hawaii Five-0 for #1 on the night … at least if you exclude WWE SmackDown over on Fox.

What do you think about the state of The Blacklist season 7 ratings over at NBC?
