Emergence episode 6 spoilers: What’s ahead in ‘Mile Marker 14’

Moving into Emergence episode 6 next week, you’re going to get to see Piper’s life after the secret is out — but is it one with a few tragic twists at its core? We have to believe so at the moment, given that there is going to be some wariness following the big reveals that we saw on the series tonight. You can see some of that play out in the promo below, as there, all of a sudden, is a different paradigm around her. It’s not going to be the easiest thing to handle — and that’s just putting it lightly.

Jo and Benny investigate the death of Kindred’s former business partner. Meanwhile, Mia and Piper experiment with Piper’s powers, and Alex confronts Ed about his health.

In looking towards the long-term future of Emergence, we learned earlier this week that ABC is not picking the series up for any additional episodes. We’re not going to say that we’re shocked about this, mostly because it was never the plan for the show to have more than 13 for now. Still, it needs to pick up the ratings pace if it wants to have a shot of a season 2 down the road.

If there is a reason for ratings hope moving forward, it’s probably this: The oh-so-simple fact that Emergence is airing next week following a live presentation of  The Little Mermaid. This feels like the sort of thing that would easily boost up the ratings, given it’s a chance to see how the show fares after a strong lead-in. It’s hard to imagine that there would be anything other than a TON of viewers watching that special … and maybe they’ll be interested in what is airing after the fact.
