The Affair season 5 episode 10 spoilers: Whitney, Helen square off

Moving into The Affair season 5 episode 10, it feels as though there is no saving the Solloway family anymore. The Vanity Fair report on Noah has blown up his entire family, and it’s also caused some of those close to him to reevaluate everything that has happened.

For some of Noah’s younger kids, it’s understandable why the two of them would be viewing this through the lens of shock. However, for Whitney, the feelings that are rushing through her head are very much different. Think about it this way — we’re talking about someone who has been out in the world, and has found herself mistreated by men (see Furkat) and taken advantage of. Are some of her behavior patterns the result of growing up with Noah as a father? There are some in the psychological community who would argue so.

At the end of this past episode, Whitney let out all of her frustration about her past towards Noah all at once — in addition to bringing forth the hot tub incident from so many years ago. Sure, Noah was not aware that it was his own daughter in the hot tub with her, but that doesn’t change what she saw or what happened. That sort of thing sticks with you and now, there’s no turning off the switch anymore for Whitney.

On Sunday night’s new episode, you’ll see Whitney continue to air out her frustrations on this entire situation with Noah to her mother, who she claims is being blind to the truth about Noah. She claims that she doesn’t want to end up like either of her parents; not only that, but she isn’t interested in even inviting Noah to the ceremony, let along having him walk her down the aisle. All of this is complicated. Did Noah do a good job helping Whitney plan for the ceremony? Sure, but that doesn’t take away from everything else he’s done. This is the basic foundation for a show like The Affair — people are complicated. With that in mind, they act/react to situations sometimes in complicated ways.
