Outlander notes: Week in filming, Sam Heughan, & convention news

Outlander season 4

Happy Saturday everyone! What better way to kick things off than with another edition of Outlander notes? We’ve got a lot of fun stuff to get into here, including stuff related to the show, show-related conventions, and some more Sam Heughan discussion.

Let’s begin, though, with a brief refresher of what we know about this past week in production — there was a LOT of Roger/Bree related content shot out in the woods in Scotland, which means that you’ll probably see the two characters on the cusp of making some critical decisions in regards to their future. All of this can be proven further via the social-media accounts of stars Sophie Skelton and Richard Rankin, who posted images throughout the week that ranged from funny to meaningful.

Based on the promotional material we’ve seen out there from Starz for the new season, the largest question worth wondering is simply this: Whether or not we’re going to see Roger and Bree go back through the stones (seemingly with Jemmy, if he is able), or if they are going to stay and help prepare for the Revolutionary War.

Convention News

Did you know that this weekend, the annual Sasnak City Convention is being held? This is a chance to see a number of your favorite actors in one place including this year Colin McFarlane, David Berry, Cesar Domboy, Kyle Rees, and a number of other familiar faces. We suggest that you visit Berry’s Instagram Stories for some highlights behind-the-scenes with the cast — he’s usually pretty great at sharing images, videos, and other fun teases.

For those wondering, Berry also proved on Instagram this week that he was on set — after all, he had himself a visitor! To everyone in attendance at Sasnak City, we hope you have a wonderful time.

The audition history of Sam Heughan

This is a small but fun little tidbit. We’ve known for a while that Heughan auditioned for Game of Thrones several times, so that headline in itself this weekend isn’t coming as a shock. Yet, it’s been fun to hear more about all of the various roles he auditioned for. Per Vulture, we’ve learned that some of the more notable ones include a few familiar faces. Here is what Sam had to say:

“I auditioned for Renly, Loras, some of the members of the Night’s Watch. And I’d always get so close! I’d be like, “Guys, just give me a sword!’” Everyone was going in for those parts.”

The truth is, we’re glad that Sam ended up getting his break elsewhere on Outlander because of the dominant effect. Even though he could’ve conceivably have been Renly on Game of Thrones and then later played Jamie Fraser, would his career trajectory have been the same? In the end, it’s fair to say that everything worked out perfectly for Sam … even if he probably didn’t feel that way at the time he was told no in terms of the HBO drama.

What excites you the most about the future of Outlander?
