NCIS season 17: Could Gibbs’ new neighbor be a spy?

NCIS

As we prepare for NCIS season 17 to tell some more big stories for one Leroy Jethro Gibbs? We know that in the wake of this past installment, there are a number of great stories left to tell. There are also some that exist within the realm of mystery, and that is where the status of the neighbor Sarah and her son, Phineas, comes into play.

On the surface, the introduction to these characters was superficial, and lighthearted, enough. Phineas is a young kid who ended up smashing Gibbs’ window with a baseball, and Sarah is a mother trying to make ends meet who is new to the neighborhood. Yet, knowing that we’ll see Phineas in at least one more episode, is there a larger purpose in mind for both him and his mom? Within this piece, we’ve got a few different possibilities that we want to map out.

1. Sarah is a possible love interest – From our vantage point, this feels unlikely — mostly because we don’t know if Gibbs wants to be a father at this point in his life. Also, there’s no real sense of romantic chemistry at the moment between Sarah and Gibbs beyond him just having a positive relationship with her son.

2. Sarah is some sort of spy – While it may seem crazy, thing about it! Maybe Sarah is someone who was hired to watch out for Gibbs and/or Ziva after everything that happened in the premiere. It’s interesting that she came about right now, only a few episodes after we saw Cote de Pablo back on the show. Another possibility is that she’s watching Gibbs after he and Fornell through themselves into the drug-trade investigation at the end of this past season.

For the record, the kid is mostly likely innocent … we don’t foresee there being any rogue-agent kids on this show.

3. This is all sweet and innocent – Maybe there’s nothing shady going on. Maybe, just maybe, Sarah and Phineas were just brought on board in order to make Gibbs open up and realize that there is a real life away from NCIS.
