The Flash season 6 spoilers: Meet Ralph Dibny’s mother!

Coming up on The Flash season 6, there are some fun stories to prepare for — crazy as that may be to say since there’s a lot of not-so-fun stuff happening around the show these days. Blame Crisis on Infinite Earths for that.

If there is one thing, though, that takes the cake for the most random wacky development at present, it is this: The chance to meet Ralph Dibny’s mother. We have so many questions as to why he acts the way that he does, especially when you think back to the off-the-wall person that we met. Since that time he’s gained more confidence and learned more not to hide in uncomfortable flirtations, but some of the old Ralph still remains. That’s a part of him thanks to what he has been through over the course of his life.

Speaking via TV Guide, Hartley Sawyer does make it clear that we will understand his character so much more thanks to what we see via his mother —

“I think it kind of helps fill in the gaps. You see her and you know what you know of Ralph and you’re like, ‘Oh yeah, that makes sense. That totally makes sense.’ I think [he inherited] some of her insecurity and certainly some of the zaniness… But also I think meeting her, it really helped me understand why Ralph has the heart that he has, because he has a very big heart. You see that in her too.”

We’re sure that there are some who will see Ralph’s mother as perhaps a distraction from some of the other big stuff happening on the show, but we would counter with this: Sometimes, it’s nice to have a little bit of humor and laughter to counteract some of the craziness. It’s nice to have a way to shake things up from what you are going to see elsewhere. when you think about how the bulk of this season seems to be about fears that Barry could die during Crisis on Infinite Earths, that’s a heavy weight to carry on one’s shoulders. We need a chance to breathe and laugh and if Ralph provides that, it could make the show around him a little more whole.
