Power Book II: Ghost debate: What is it really all about?

Power Book II: Ghost season 1

At the moment, finding details about the upcoming Power Book II: Ghost spin-off series is a challenge like no other. There are some elements of it that seem firm, but then others (take, for example, the time period) that are subject to some conflicting reports.

For the time being, though, let’s start by giving you a sense of a few things … starting with what is certain. Power Book II: Ghost is going to star Mary J. Blige in a currently-unknown role, and there’s going to be a very small break at least in terms of the end of the main series airing and work beginning on the new one. Executive producers Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson and Courtney A. Kemp have been eager to continue the franchise, and we know that there are a number of possible projects in development.

As for the story of this particular one, this is where things get confusing. Jackson has noted an interest in a Kanan prequel, and there are also rumors out there suggesting that Book II would, quite surprisingly, go back and focus a little bit more on some of Ghost’s early days. Our personal preference is for a series continuing what happens here and focusing more on Tariq — that tends to make more sense with what the show’s title is, and maybe this is meant to be a continuation of where he is and how he ends up becoming more of a titan in the game. It’s certainly easy to fathom a scenario in which Ghost 1.0 falls at the end of Power proper, leaving us with a possible story of Ghost 2.0 rising to prominence.

We’d love for Book II to premiere at some point in 2020, and we imagine that so would Starz. This series and Outlander are far and away their most-popular shows, and we have to think that they would like to keep each one going for as long as possible.
