Batwoman episode 2 ratings have big drop; state of The Rookie season 2

Batwoman

Will Batwoman be yet another success story in the Arrowverse, or is this the rare show that could actually end up canceled sooner rather than later? After seeing the numbers for episode 2, there’s a little more cause for concern than there was previously.

Sunday night’s new episode generated just a 0.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic — down more than 30% from where the show was in the premiere. It is fairly standard for a show to lose a big chunk of its audience from one week to the next, but typically we’re not talking about a decline anywhere near this level. The show did still draw close to 1.5 million viewers, which is a good sign for its long-term future if it can keep that up.

One other thing to consider here is that in 2019, The CW is probably the most immune to live ratings out of any network on TV. They’ve set themselves up rather well with a lot of different ways in which people can watch — perhaps most importantly, their app allows for next-day viewing of many of their new episodes without having to validate a cable subscription. If they can continue to generate big ratings through that, they could have a series here that sticks around for some some time.

For the record, the drop with Batwoman also impacted Supergirl, which also declined down to a 0.3 rating in the demo on the night.

The present state of The Rookie

Admittedly, it’s hard to dive too deep into the performance of shows like God Friended Me, NCIS: Los Angeles, or any of the animated shows over at Fox. So much of how they perform is dependent based on football in the fall.

The Rookie, meanwhile, is different and for ABC, the only goal here is that they improve on a timeslot that has shown itself to be miserable for them the past few years. Last night’s new episode did generate a 0.6 rating and at least in terms of the demo, the show is doing much better than it has for ABC in the fall in recent years. The Nathan Fillion cop show may be down slightly from the first season, but not so much as to sound off any alarms.
