The Walking Dead season 10 episode 2 sneak peek: Alpha’s past
What we’ve learned about Samantha Morton’s character at the moment is clear: She’s ruthless, dangerous, and she operates by her own rules. She’s not afraid to cause chaos in any way that she can to bring about the world as she sees it.
Also, as the sneak peek reveals, she has had no problem being incognito as a walker for quite a long period of time. This shows Alpha alongside her daughter working to blend in with some of the walkers, at least for a short period of time. At the end of this, you see the two of them escape indoors.
At this point seven years ago, it’s clear that Alpha hasn’t gone full Whisperer. She’s not the same signature villain who we come to meet later, and she’s got some more changing before she will get to that point. Yet, it’s clear that she’s also fairly isolated and on a road … one that could eventually bring her to such a point. She’s got a lot of different stuff that she needs to work through and maybe, she becomes so jaded and sad that she sees the only way forward as establishing this new world for herself.
What we’ve tended to see in most comic-book stories is simply this: Characters don’t become like Alpha unless there’s a pretty substantial reason why. Think about in this way — most logical people aren’t going to want to form a band of murderers dressed as walkers. There’s some stuff that happens to them that makes them think that this is the right path forward. We’re excited to see what’s coming, just as we’re also hoping for a fantastic performance from Samantha Morton along the way.
