The Walking Dead season 10 episode 2 spoilers: Alpha’s origin story

Moving into The Walking Dead season 10 episode 2 on AMC next week, we’re preparing ourselves for a very different story. It’s not so much about Daryl and Carl thinking about running away together or strictly the fire that we saw tonight. Instead, it has a little more to do with an origin story.

You saw Alpha in the closing seconds of the episode tonight, and next week during “We Are the End of the World,” you will understand further how the Whisperers came to pass. You’ll learn more of how they tick, their various misgivings, and then also how they make their armies into something so dangerous. Tonight, we came to understand the heroes better within their current form; moving into episode 3, we’re going to be getting to learn more about the villains.

A flashback reveals the origins of Alpha and Beta; Alpha attempts to toughen up Lydia as they prepare to walk with the dead; the Whisperers create their herds.

Will this episode prove to be thrilling? It’s hard to imagine any other way in which it ends. We’re hoping that there’s going to be a better sense of understanding as to why these people are now the anarchists of the Walking Dead world, why they act the way that they do, and what they’re ultimately hoping to get out of this in the end. Let’s just cross our fingers and hope that we’re going to see a crazy, chaotic season, but also one with a strong emotional undercurrent. This is a show that has survived to date on emotional moments and while Alpha and Beta aren’t the sort of people you’d associate with emotion, it may not have always been that way. This is a chance to explore more of their story further.

As for what else we’re getting beyond the flashbacks, we wouldn’t be surprised if this episode inter-cuts the past with more of the present.
