Walker, Texas Ranger reboot with Jared Padalecki heads to The CW

Walker season 1

There is still no guarantee that the upcoming Walker, Texas Ranger reboot starring Jared Padalecki is going to find itself a spot on a schedule. Yet, it does seem to have a network that is very much friendly to the actor.

According to a report coming in from Deadline, this new series featuring Jared is going to be taking hold at The CW. He’s worked there (or back when it was The WB) before with both Gilmore Girls and then Supernatural, so it makes sense for him to stay there. The network’s viewers are very familiar with him, and this is a place where we’re likely to see it picked up to series.

Yet, is this still the home for the show (currently titled Walker) that makes the most sense? It’s a little surprising, mostly due to the fact that we don’t see many adult-oriented crime dramas on this network, which tends to skew a little bit younger. If we had to guess, we would argue that a more suitable home for the show would’ve been either CBS itself or NBC. The original version of the series aired on CBS — though, for the record, The CW is partially owned by CBS alongside Warner Bros. TV.

There will be some changes that separate the new Walker from the original, starting with the fact that Padalecki’s main character will have a female partner. Meanwhile, it doesn’t seem like this is a continuation on the original — we have to figure that there will be some interest somewhere in Chuck Norris making a cameo, but nothing is guaranteed there as of yet.

We get why Jared would want to take this show on — he’s a native Texan through and through, and he’s spent a substantial amount of time there when he is not filming Supernatural in Vancouver. We’d like to see this new show film in Texas, but it is a little bit early in order to feel reassured on anything at the moment. Think about things this way — there is no order for a pilot yet, and this feels like one of those things that has to just be one step at a time.

Now, we want to know from you — would you be interested in the idea of Walker being on The CW with Jared once more? Be sure to share right now in the comments, and remember to stick around for more news. (Photo: The CW.)
