The Rookie season 2 spoilers: Alan Tudyk reuniting with Nathan Fillion
If you loved Nathan Fillion and Alan Tudyk together on Firefly, we’ve got a feeling that this new The Rookie season 2 news will be right up your alley!
In a new post on Instagram, Fillion presented the news in humorous fashion, showing off his former co-star at the tail end of a new video. This is one that serves as a great reminder of the relationship that the two have … and also a way to coyly announce a casting people will be excited to see.
Beyond just Firefly and its follow-up movie Serenity, Fillion and Tudyk did work together on Con Man. This is also not the only Firefly alum to appear on The Rookie, as Sean Maher ended up appearing back on the first season of the show. We still imagine that there are others who could turn up here or there, schedule permitting — Gina Torres in particular has been rather busy with USA’s Pearson, though she did make a guest appearance on Fillion’s previous hit ABC show in Castle.
Based on the timing of this particular announcement, we would imagine that Tudyk would be appearing either late this year or early next. A show like The Rookie is typically many weeks head in production of where it is on the air. It’s hard to necessarily chart the total impact that a guest spot like this can have on a show’s ratings, but it does manage to generate so much more attention than your standard guest casting. If it even produces a 3% bump in the ratings for when this episode airs, we imagine that this is something that ABC will be thrilled with after the fact.
There are no firm details on Tudyk’s role as of yet, but we do think it would be the funniest in the event he ends up playing an adversary or someone on the total other side of the law to Fillion’s John Nolan. Anything to allow the two of them to play a different sort of relationship than anything that they have managed to do before.
