The Walking Dead renewed for season 11, Lauren Cohan returning

Walking Dead season 8

Today, we’ve got a one-two punch when it comes to The Walking Dead season 11 and then also Lauren Cohan returning.

Let’s start with the former, as the AMC zombie drama has been officially renewed, and it’s one day prior to the tenth season even launching. This isn’t going to come as a big shock, given the fact that this is one of the most-successful series in the history of cable and there is no direct evidence that it’s about to slow down anytime soon. With the Rick Grimes movies coming and with Fear the Walking Dead returning for at least one more season, it makes some sense to continue the story of the flagship show for as long as there is viability here. The ratings are not what they once were, but the quality is fairly solid at the moment, especially with the arrival of the Whisperers. These characters, led by Alpha, are some of the most brutal and terrifying that we’ve seen within the world of the story to date.

Now, there’s the big news when it comes to Lauren Cohan — she’s returning for the upcoming season, and as a regular, as well! Following the cancellation of Whiskey Cavalier earlier this year, it was clear that this was something that could happen. Since most of season 10 was planned prior to that show coming to an end, it’s hard to fit her into a lot of the upcoming story … but you could see her again before the end of the finale.

Bringing Cohan back to this world as Maggie may be especially important when you think about all of the other departures within the Walking Dead world already. Think about it this way — we’re going to be losing Danai Gurira by the end of the season and, to go along with that, we’ve already lost the likes of Andrew Lincoln and Chandler Riggs. Without Danai, Norman Reedus and Melissa McBride are going to be two of the primary selling points of this show. With Lauren back, there is another known name who has a lengthy history being a part of the show. we do think that helps significantly when it comes to the long-game of this story.
