Why is Stephanie Sigman leaving SWAT after two seasons?

Why is Stephanie Sigman leaving SWAT? You may have suspected the news a little bit earlier this week but now, it’s 100% official. After playing Jessica since the Shemar Moore series’ beginning, the actress is now looking in other directions insofar as career opportunities go.

Of course, anytime there are such departures, there are a flurry of questions that come out as to why. following her original post on Twitter (see below), Sigman made it clear that the departure was professional, and it sounds like it was also her decision to leave as opposed to something that was creatively dictated. She also indicated that it has nothing to do with her current pregnancy and that it was decided before she was even expecting a baby.

Following the news, executive producer Shawn Ryan also posted a message praising her work on Twitter:

Much thanks to [Stephanie Sigman] for her tremendous work on S.W.A.T. It was a pleasure to write for her & see what she did with the role each week. Stephanie’s an extremely talented actress. I look forward to seeing what she conquers next professionally. We’ll be rooting for her.

In the end, departures are just a natural part of the network TV landscape, especially in an era where there are so many options. Several decades ago, leaving a show was perhaps a riskier endeavor just because there were so few big shows and it was rather hard to land a spot somewhere else — unless you went into movies. Now, you’ve got the broadcast networks plus Netflix, Hulu, Amazon, Apple TV, Disney+, traditional cable, and even more options. It’s a good time to be a television actor in that there are a lot of stories being told. Eventually, we could see the number of series go down as networks start to trim down on what has to be an expensive pursuit for viewership. Yet, at the same time we’re not there yet.

New episodes of SWAT are going to be continuing on CBS Wednesday nights at 10:00 p.m. Eastern. If you want to read some more news all about what’s coming up next, we suggest that you visit the link here.
