As we move further into The Resident season 3, we know that a lot of interesting stuff is coming for Devon. Take, for starters, the idea that he will be moving up the medical ladder.
Speaking via TVLine, executive producer Amy Holden Jones noted that, in the upcoming episodes, you will see Devon “transition to being a resident, so he’ll no longer be Conrad’s intern.” That’s a big change for the character, but it also does mean that there will be an influx of conflict coming between him and Matt Czuchry’s character. Devon no longer has to fret about whether or not he can speak his mind, given that there will be opportunities aplenty in order for him to say and do whatever he deems necessary. It’s a big step forward for him as a doctor, and it is ultimately one of many that could be coming.
As it turns out, though, Devon’s story moving forward is going to stretch so much beyond just the professional part of his life. We’re also going to get more of his personal life! Jones makes it clear that there will be the “introduction of a fabulous new love interest” for the character at some point in season 3. Note that this isn’t going to be a reprisal for what we’ve seen previously with Julian Lynn; instead, it’s something totally differently! It’s a chance to mix things up moving forward and see his life in a very different light.
The Resident season 3 overall should allow itself to be presented as a story of relationships, but also characters battling the system and finding their own voice every single step of the way. For Devon, what he has moving forward is an opportunity to do just that. It’s not necessarily something that he’s been able to do as effectively working directly under so many other people; now, that opportunity is going to be present more than ever before.
We’re still in the early, formative stages of The Resident season 3. What does that mean? It’s as simple as the fact that it’s going to take some time for some further blanks to be filled in.
