The Flash season 6 episode 2 spoilers: John Wesley Shipp returns!

While we knew John Wesley Shipp would be on board for Crisis On Infinite Earths, isn’t it nice to see him back for The Flash, as well? It remains unclear if he will be back as Jay Garrick (pictured above) or some other character from within the Arrowverse, but it will be fun to have around regardless.

What does Shipp present? Think in terms of emotional moments, as we still have memories of Barry with Henry Allen from the start of the series. Also, he’s a welcome dose of nostalgia to the previous live-action incarnation of The Flash. That is what made his return as a version of that character exciting during the Elseworlds crossover last year.

For a few specifics around the Flash season 6 episode 2 story, we suggest that you just take a look at the synopsis below:

JOHN WESLEY SHIPP TO GUEST STAR – Faced with the news of his impending death, Barry’s (Grant Gustin) resiliency suffers as he struggles to fight fate. Meanwhile, Cecile’s (Danielle Nicolet) career as a D.A. conflicts with her identity when she crosses paths with a villainous meta-human. Chris Peppe directed the episode, which was written by Sam Chalsen & Jeff Hersh.

This synopsis does indicate what one of the major struggles of the upcoming season is going to be: A real debate over mortality. Can Barry escape or evade death … or at least what could be a version of it? One of the things that is most important about those famed newspaper headlines is that Barry vanishes “in crisis.” There is no guarantee that he is actually dead and gone. It’s still possible that he disappears and finds a way to run back to his wife (a nod to that famous song from the musical crossover). Meanwhile, it’s also possible that he never vanishes at all and another way is uncovered.

Meanwhile, here is one other thing to wonder: Where is Bloodwork? We know that he is the Big Bad for the first half of this season, and since the writers are dealing with limited time to tell that story, they have to move quickly.
