Entering the Fear the Walking Dead season 5 finale on AMC this weekend, we had a pretty good advance understanding of where we were going to find Dwight. The character was going to be isolated from much of his grown, a decision that was clearly of his own making. He made that choice rather than stand around next to Virginia and her group. We saw Morgan accept that he needed their help, at least for the moment, and that was enough to make him step away. Dwight is uncompromising. If he was going to accept a new way of life, he didn’t want to revert back and cast his lot in with anyone else.

Within the sneak peek below, you now see Dwight on his own, not sure of what his next move is really going to be. He finds himself desperate to pull a gun on someone, only to then stumble upon a number of horses. They appear to be well-cared for and yet, there are no people around them.
Dwight credits the horse for saving his life, but what does that mean in terms of everyone else? Well, he could try and bring the horses back to Morgan, Alicia, and company is another recourse and a way to show that there are some other tools that are at their disposal. We don’t know how this would eradicate the zombie problem at the Gulch, but we have a hard time thinking that Dwight is going to be leaving the group behind forever. There’s still too much of a reason for him to want to continue working together with them! Let’s hope that this happens, but we’ll get a greater sense of that when the finale airs … and maybe also in season 6 in the event that Austin Amelio sticks around.
