NCIS season 17 premiere review: Did Ziva & Gibbs take down Sahar?
In the early going tonight, we learned that Ziva was trying to stop a mystery woman by the name of Sahar, someone who has spent a good bit of time hunting her down. It’s kept her from her family and loved ones, and the danger Gibbs was in caused her to track him down.

For most of the episode tonight, Gibbs and Ziva went rogue in order to get some more information about Sahar, and to secure their own safety. As things moved forward in the episode, there were opportunities to learn a few more details. Yet, they also needed to clue some people in. Bishop found herself in a position where she had to tell McGee and, following that, both Torres and Palmer ended up learning the truth, as well.
What Ziva and Gibbs uncovered through most of this episode was a mystery that traveled deep into the lore of Ziva as a character. The pinnacle of this episode was perhaps Gibbs and Ziva’s confrontation, where she accused him of never questioning her death. She felt abandoned as a result of it.
As the episode reached its conclusion, Vance ordered McGee, Bishop, and Torres to go out and track Ziva down — they refused, largely because of a small moment out in the field where Ziva, without saying a word, told Tim to stand down. Vance is trying to trust in them. Meanwhile, at the conclusion of the episode we saw a confrontation between Ziva and Sahar, one that offered an opportunity for there to be some answers. She was put in handcuffs, but does that mean that things are over. Ziva wanted to kill her, but Gibbs stood in the way to try and prevent something from happening.
The episode ended with a stand-off, one where Ziva tried to kill Sahar, only for Gibbs to stand in the way. Now, we have to wait and see where this story goes…

If you were looking forward to great things within the NCIS season 17 premiere, we have a feeling that this installment delivered. Think about everything we got here — nonstop action, drama, powerful character moments, and then also a lot of humor. Despite the high stakes at the center of this episode, we still had a great story that was all about the chaos and confusion that comes from everyone knowing a collective secret.
