James Van Der Beek shines on Dancing with the Stars season 28 premiere
It shouldn’t be a surprise that James was exceptional at the end of the episode — after all, we are talking here about a great performer, let alone someone who ironically did a storyline on Don’t Trust the B—- in Apartment 23 that was about him doing this show. James was born for this role! The exciting thing about seeing him here was that we had a fantastic opportunity to see him be a leading plan and command the floor. He’s got presence, style, and a natural way of moving about. He felt like a natural, and that is not something that we can say for the majority of the other performers on the night.

James finished his opening routine with a score of 21 out of 30, which was enough to make him the #1 performer of the night. Former The Bachelorette star Hannah Brown got a 20, and that was enough for her to be in second place for the time being. She’s going to have a good chance to be a contender moving forward, given that she’s going to have a whole lot of Bachelor Nation behind her. We’re still not ruling out Ally Brooke or Kel Mitchell, as we think that both of them are going to have big fan followings backing them up at every turn.
The most newsworthy part of the premiere was the debut of Sailor Brinkley-Cook, who ended up becoming a contestant after her mother Christie found herself injured during rehearsals for the show. Her daughter stepped in, and the two had an emotional moment after she went out and performed.
