Dancing with the Stars: Sailor Brinkley-Cook replacing mother Christie

How about this as a last-minute twist for Dancing with the Stars season 28? Christie Brinkley is gone from the competition due to a last-minute injury! That is dramatic, and what makes the situation even more so is learning that her daughter Sailor Brinkley-Cook is going to come on board in her place.

In a statement today, ABC and production company BBC Studios had the following to say about the last-second change:

“While rehearsing for the premiere of Dancing with the Stars, Christie Brinkley suffered injuries which required surgery to her wrist and arm. She is unable to continue her planned participation on the show … Keeping it all in the family, her daughter Sailor Brinkley-Cook, a Sports Illustrated model, has chosen to quickly step in with hours to learn the entire routine and will compete in her mother’s place for the remainder of the season. We wish Christie a full and speedy recovery and look forward to seeing her in the audience, whenever possible, proudly supporting Sailor.”

This is not the first time that Dancing with the Stars has featured a last-minute change due to one of its stars being injured. Romeo was originally going to compete back in season 2, but was replaced by his father Master P (who has since gone on to be considered the worst dancer in the show’s history). Meanwhile, eventual Dancing with the Stars: All-Stars winner Melissa Rycroft actually started off as a replacement for Nancy O’Dell after she was injured leading up to the premiere. This is a horrible situation for Christie, who has been long coveted by producers of Dancing with the Stars to do this show. Yet, it’s a huge opportunity for Sailor to come on board and allow viewers to know a few different things about her.

Ultimately, we’re very much intrigued to see how all of this plays out entering tonight’s big premiere!
