Dancing with the Stars season 28: What are the ratings expectations?

Dancing with the Stars

Will Dancing with the Stars season 28 be a big hit over on ABC? Consider this one of many things that we want some answers on at the moment.

After all, it’s been a long time at the moment since the series was last on the air. The ratings for season 17 were some of the lowest for the show to date, especially with a live average of a 0.9 rating in the 18-49 demographic. There may have been some burnout with the show last year, or just a tiring of the format in general.

In skipping a season, what we think that ABC was looking to do here was fight in order to ensure that Dancing with the Stars felt fresh. They also tried to go back to the drawing board with some of the cast, which we would consider to be somewhat of a mixed bag at the moment. There are some great castings in here, including Kenal & Kel star Kel Mitchell, actor James Van Der Beek, and also The Office alum Kate Flannery. There is also the ratings bait that comes with former The Bachelorette star Hannah Brown.

The ratings x-factor at the moment, though, is Sean Spicer. Is the former White House Press Secretary going to hurt the series? We know that there are many proclaiming that they won’t watch the show if he is on it … though there may also be some who watch because he is. That’s the difficult thing about having a political figure on the show, and why we wish in general that there were no people who came on DWTS in this role; our personal preference is that the show was apolitical and it could just be all about watching the dancing and seeing people have a good time on the ballroom floor.

In the end, we’re expecting numbers fairly in line with last year, though maybe down slightly. Some of that could be due to the casting, but another part of it could be due to the simple fact that ratings for a lot of programs declines rather naturally in this era. It’s just a part of the television-viewing experience at this point.
