Outlander notes: Sam Heughan filming + early season 6 planning!
If you missed it, Sam noted recently that he and the rest of the crew just began filming on the penultimate block of episodes, meaning that there are probably four more episodes to go (give or take) before production is fully at an end. (That’s assuming that each block contains two episodes.) In a post on Twitter yesterday, Sam also confirmed that he is in the process of doing more night shoots, which also involves some colder temperatures. It’s a little bit different than shooting in the summer, no? Based on the weather reports that we’ve seen, it has certainly been cooling off in parts of Scotland these days — think in terms of temperatures in the 40’s Fahrenheit, or below ten degrees Celsius. Add to that rain, wind, and everything else, and it can make for a complicated filming experience.
Despite the long hours and hard work, we’re sure that after the fact, filming these sort of scenes is extremely satisfying for Sam and the rest of the cast.
Is work already being done on Outlander season 6?
While filming for season 5 is still going on, executive producer Matthew B. Roberts made it clear that there is already some early work being done on season 6! In a post on Twitter, Roberts shared his version of the Diana Gabaldon book A Breath of Snow and Ashes. This is the basis for the sixth season of the show, and you can see all of his various sticky notes thrown in there! He has to comb through it in a way that is so different from the average reader, isolating important moments and keeping track of how he wants to adapt things to the small screen.
While nothing is confirmed as of yet, we’re confident that Outlander season 6 will be underway in 2020.
