Yellowstone spin-off: Could one ever happen on Paramount Network?
We don’t think it’s a ridiculous notion to raise the question at the moment, mostly because we’re talking about what is the network’s flagship show at the moment. It’s one of the biggest cable series of the summer, and it’s the sort of hit that Paramount Network can eventually use in order to set up a lot of the other stuff that they have coming up on their schedule.
Yet, just because there could be a spin-off coming doesn’t mean that there, for sure, will be. There’s a lot that goes into this idea, whether it be making sure that you have the right idea for it or the right people to lead it. Kevin Costner was one of the big selling points for Yellowstone right away just because of his immense popularity. With a new show, you’d have to find another high-caliber actor to get people watching.
Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem like any spin-off idea is imminent — at least for now. According to TVLine, there are not any ideas in development for the time being, though we wonder if that could change over the next year or so. Think about it — one of the biggest hindrances for Yellowstone as a tentpole is that it only makes ten episodes a season. It airs, and then once it’s done airing, you then are set to have to wait another 40+ weeks in order to see it back. The value in a spin-off could be having a show that could air at another point in the year, or maybe one that airs on the same night as Yellowstone and helps to create a little more of a steady lineup for the network.
For the time being, keep the idea of Yellowstone spin-off stored away in some corner of your mind. We’ll have to wait and see if something comes to fruition.
